Visitation is 3:00-7:00pm, Thursday, with family present from 5:00-7:00pm, and a prayer service at 7:00pm at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home.

Robert J. Ristau died peacefully in Jesus on Aug. 18, 2019 at Prairie Heights Healthcare in Aberdeen. Born in Aberdeen to Robert E. Ristau and Sophia Luebke Ristau on April 4, 1932, he was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, Highland Township. He attended Busy Bee country school in New Hope Township and graduated as valedictorian from Warner High School in 1950. He served in the U.S. Army from 1953-1955, receiving the good conduct medal, and continuing to serve in the reserve until 1961.

He spent all of his 87 years on a farm west of Warner, moving only once in 1975 - 10 feet from the “old” house to the “new” house. Robert and Lois Krueger, the new teacher at St. John’s Lutheran Day School, were married Dec. 28, 1960. Their blessed gifts born to the world were Rachel, Steven, James, David and Jennifer. Robert, “Bobby,” a nickname that stuck for life, raised cattle and a diversity of grains. With eyes on the sky, waiting patiently for rain, he enjoyed the changing seasons with a curiosity and wonder for God’s creation. Active in supporting church and school activities, he served on the church board, sang in choir, was Sunday school superintendent and men’s club chairman for many years. He served on several boards including the New Hope township board, the Warner Co-op, and 20 years for the Brown Co. ASCS. He was an avid sportsman, especially enjoying hunting and fishing. He liked to keep tabs on where the fish were biting, even after his active fishing days were over. Always trying to be a good steward of the land, he enjoyed sharing its bounty with others.

A humble, quiet, and compassionate man, Bob was uncomplaining through his final four years of illness and treatment. An example to his family and friends of a Christian life well-lived, his generosity, wit and wisdom will be greatly missed.

Robert is survived by his sister Trudy (Lyle) Schaunaman, his wife of 58 years Lois, and his children and grandchildren: daughter Rachel (Don) Hoops, son Steven (Dawn Nielsen) Ristau and their daughter Erika, son James (Karen Lake) Ristau and their children Zachary, Jessie, Gunner, Garret and Jade, son David Ristau and daughter Jennifer Ristau.

Robert is preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Alvin (Beulah) Ristau and Irene (Irl) Schaunaman.
