Oriett Linse Grieben was born on June 28, 1926 in rural Aberdeen, SD to John and Emma (Linse) Grieben. At the age of nine, in 1935, her dad died. They moved to a farm by Bath, where she attended school. In 1937 they moved to Aberdeen where she graduated from Aberdeen Central High School with the class of 1944. She then worked for Bensen Optical Company. On October 26, 1946 she married Orville Crawford. Their first home was a one room grainery with windows and sheet rock wall on the Crawford farm. In October 1947, they rented a farm near Frederick, SD, where Randall, Lynn, Karen and Mark were born. In July 1959, they purchased a farm where Bryan and Darnell joined the family.

Oriett was a thorough historian, tracing family roots. She enjoyed decorating wedding cakes, needle work, ceramics, knitting by hand and machine, sewing clothes for herself, children and grandchildren, crocheting, decoupage, beaded banners, necklaces and made wine, to name a few hobbies. There were no crafts she couldn’t master.

Oriett was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Aberdeen and past member of Savo Lutheran Church where she served in many roles and positions. She participated in many community committees and organizations. After the death of their son, Mark, they were instrumental in establishing the first ambulance service in the Frederick area. Oriett worked at the Ellendale Nursing Home for a few years in the late 70’s and early 80’s. In April 2003 they purchased a home in Aberdeen. In February 2014, they moved to Bethesda Town Square. Orville died on October 1, 2014. Oriett moved into Bethesda Home in March 2019.
