Obituary for David Joe Goodman

The funeral service for David Joe Goodman, 66, of Aberdeen, SD, will be 11:00am, Friday, December 7, 2018, at Aberdeen First United Methodist Church, with Pastor Eldon Reich and Pastor Derek Baum officiating. Burial at Sunset Memorial Gardens, Aberdeen. David died Sunday, December 2, at Avera St. Luke’s Hospital, Aberdeen.

Visitation will be 3:00pm to 6:30pm, Thursday, with a prayer service at 6:30pm, at Spitzer-Miller Funeral Home, 1111 South Main Street.

David Joe Goodman was born October 21, 1952, to Clyde and Dorothy (Skooglund) Goodman in Perry, IA. His family moved to Denison, IA, Glendive, MT, and settled in Lemmon, SD. David worked during his school years, but also played football, basketball, and was in track, where he still holds the 2-mile relay record. After David graduated from Lemmon High School in 1971, he attended Northern State University from 1971 to 1973 and played basketball.

On May 19, 1973, David was united in marriage to Donna Kay Moser in Aberdeen. David continued his education at St. Luke’s School of X-ray and Presentation College. He worked at St. Luke’s Radiology Department. He then earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Minot State University in 1977. David came back and became the first full time Director of the School of Radiology. He taught the program for four years, started the St. Luke’s Ultrasound Department in 1980 and also became the first registered Ultrasound Technologist at the hospital. David worked at the hospital for over 40 years.

David was as member of Aberdeen First United Methodist Church where he served as an usher. He also served on the loan committee at Health Care Plus in their early years. David and Donna were involved in cub scouts, AAU track, and Hershey Track and Field. David started the Aberdeen Track Club so kids would get involved with track. He loved traveling with his kids when they competed in athletics. He coached the girls basketball team, The Heat, with Doug Fjeldheim, and assisted with the boys basketball team, The Sixers. David enjoyed camping with friends and family. He also loved water and snow skiing, and always looked forward to the next opportunity. David was an avid Green Bay Packers fan. His children have always been his pride and joy. David knew that God had always been good to them. He said “Everyone has their trials and crosses to bear, just Hope, Dream, and Believe!

Grateful for having shared David’s life are his wife: Donna Goodman, Aberdeen; his children: Ryan (Amanda) Goodman, Becker, MN and Rebecca Goodman, New York, NY; grandchildren: Jonathon Goodman, Elizabeth Mackedanz, William Mackedanz and Austin Mackedanz; his mother: Dorothy Walter; and his sisters: Ellen (Ed) Cloninger, Lemmon, SD, and Beverly (Paul) Lewis, Portland, OR.

Preceding David in death are his father, Clyde Goodman and step-father, Allen Walter.
